Strong quake hits eastern Indonesia

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4 has hit eastern Indonesia.

Indonesian authorities issues a tsunami warning after the quake early on Wednesday.

Residents say the earthquake, which struck off Papua province in the east, caused panic, but there were no initial reports of damage or casualties.
The US Geological survey said the quake was centred 33km beneath the ocean floor.
