Dear all,Just to remind every one:If tomorrow the 11th of August the verdict in Burma's trial of Aung San Suu Kyi will be announced, Burma Centre the Netherlands will organize a bicycle demonstration through Amsterdam. It will be from 17:00-18:30.If the verdict is postponed again the demonstration will also be postponed.Let us know as soon as possible, if you can cycle as well. If you don’t have a bicycle you can join in at the end of the demonstration at a central meeting point in the city. As soon as we know more we will keep you up to date via email. * Het huisarrest van Aung San Suu Kyi is tijdens haar detentie officieel opgeheven.
*Op 31 juli 2009, de dag dat over Aung San Suu Kyi het vonnis zou worden uitgesproken, heeft de rechtbank in Birma het proces twee weken uitgesteld. De uitspraak wordt nu verwacht op 11 augustus. Het is duidelijk dat het regiem zich om tot een veroordeling te komen in alle mogelijke bochten wringt. Niet in het minst vanwege de internationale druk die is ontstaan.
* BCN organiseert op de dag van de uitspraak een demonstratie van 17:00 tot 18:15, om te protesteren tegen de veroordeling, of heel misschien om de vrijspraak te bejubelen. Er zal een korte fietstocht door Amsterdam worden gehouden.
Op dit moment is nog niet met zekerheid zeggen of op 11 augustus ook echt de uitspraak is, aangezien het proces al meerdere malen is opgeschort. Wij houden u daarom via onze website op de hoogte.
